Now I want to take a deeper dive into a brand that is at the top of its game not only in online video advertising, but also in front of the \u201cconnected consumer\u201d on all fronts: Macy\u2019s.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mce-hs-more\" style=\"height: 20px !important;\" src=\"image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP\/\/\/yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Macy\u2019s is one retailer that welcomes marketing innovation with open arms, and views online video as a blank canvas for developing its brand. Bravo! More than 150 years old, Macy\u2019s is not scared of new technologies which is a significant characteristic of why the company is not only still around, but still relevant.<br \/>\nJoe Feczko, SVP of Marketing Innovation and Integration shared a telling example in his session: instead of buying technology and installing it in stores, customers enter with the best technology available in their pockets. That\u2019s why Macy\u2019s <a title=\"WiFi\u2019ed all their stores\" href=\"http:\/\/www.muniwireless.com\/2011\/09\/14\/macys-bloomingdales-installing-wifi-in-all-stores\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WiFi\u2019ed all their stores<\/a>, because they know and understand their \u201cconnected customer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"img-1340293505584\"   src=\"\/\/cdn2.hubspot.net\/hub\/165863\/file-5408348-png\/images\/macys-fashionstar.png\" alt=\"Macy's Fashion Star\" width=\"400\" height=\"337\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Segmentation strategy is part of the Macy\u2019s business, and the brand understands the different life stages of their customer. For example, Macy\u2019s partnered with NBC on \u201cFashion Star,\u201d a reality show that married entertainment and commerce. And while the show\u2019s ratings were not chart topping, the series no doubt <a title=\"reinvented the way retailers connect with their consumers\" href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB10001424052702304450004577277700575502044.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reinvented the way retailers connect with their consumers<\/a>. And the result for Macy\u2019s? They sold out of inventory very quickly.<\/p>\n<p>So Macy\u2019s, when will we see\u00a0personalized, online video engagement\u00a0from you, driven by your big data? Which we know you must have ; )<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Feczko also stated that Macy\u2019s is an entertainment brand. (Think: Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Fourth of July Fireworks.) By launching their <a title=\"web series \u201cWendy,\u201d\" href=\"http:\/\/www.psfk.com\/2011\/09\/macys-launches-new-web-series-wendy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">web series \u201cWendy,\u201d<\/a> they knew they needed to be in the digital entertainment space, too.
